Vortex D-1 Diatom Filter w/Stand

The Vortex Diatom Filter D-1 is a high-speed mechanical filter that is designed to fine filter aquarium water without disturbing the natural bacteria levels. The filter is invaluable in keeping a parasite-free, clean, well balanced and healthy aquarium. It can be used for fresh and saltwater tanks up to 55 gallons with an “active” flow rate of 150-200gph. The Diatom Filter is equipped with a 3000 RPM motor shaft that is connected directly to the impeller. It is designed for continuous operation

The D-1 filter features and adjustable and directional flow and has an electrical on-off switch. It has a thermally protected motor which provides quiet operation. The filter is self-contained and back-flushes clean without taking the filter apart.

Instructions:
A minimum charge for the D-1 Diatom Filter is about one cup. To start the filter or if it has been turned off for any length of time, the Diatom Filter Powder will have fallen off the filter bag and settled into the bottom of the plastic jar. The powder is the filter, not the bag.

When the flow from the exhaust tube is weak or the Diatom Filter is visibly dirty, it is time to clean and recharge the unit with a new charge of Diatom Filter Powder.

To clean and recharge the filter a back flushing method may be used by disconnecting the filter from the aquarium and connecting it to a water faucet. The incoming water forces the dirty water out to make sure all the waste material is flushed clean. The filter can then be recharged.

The Diatom motor should be oiled every three to four months of normal use with Diatom lubricant.

The filter can be used in standing upright position on floor or a hanger can be purchased to hang it on tank.

Specifications:
The D-1 includes the Pump Assembly, a two quart, plastic Chamber with Base, a Filter Bag, 2 Four Foot Section of 5/8" Hose, a Turbulence Tube, a Filter Charge, (2) Strainer Plates, (2) Strainer Strainers, (2)Cap Plugs, (2) Eight Inch Tubes, "U" Tubes (one glued, one unglued), (4) Rubber Hose Clamps, and a Plastic Hose Clamp.

Size:
Fitler: 8" diameter (base) 3 1/2" diameter (top) x 15" High
Power Cord: 3' long.

Warranty:
The filter has a 6 month warranty.

Well i had greenwater in some tanks ( newly set up) with low light plants generally and decided it was time to take the step in the diatom filters
Contacted vortex and got a few grand worth of them in stock finially
Well after a few hours you would not believe the difference in what the tanks looked like

The tank looks great! Diatom filteration works like magic when you have a problem like great water. I have a diatom filter. Occassionally I use it in between water changes just to polish the water to a sparkling shine. Nothing works better. Cool

As you can tell new set up only 2 fish. Not grown in or aquascaped.

Hopefully since things have slowed down a bit i can get some aquascaping going on. It has only been up for 2 weels

What a difference!

That diatom filter looks like it could be worth the money if you have problems like this. Could this be a soloution to Florite? Smile

when I had gw algae before, I bought a UV steralizer -- that clears it up right away.

What do you think of the diatom filter? I almost bought one, but a friend of mine told me to get a Magnum H.O.T. instead, so I bought myself one for Christmas. (merry christmas to me) I was going to use it tonight to polish the water after a water change. He said that if you use the micron cartrige, it works as well as a diatom filter and you don't have to mess with the diatom powder.

What do you think?

I had a hot magnum filter with a micron filter running @ one time a few years ago.

Its polishing capacities are nothing ( from what i remember ) compared to a diatom filter. I have ran this vortex diatom filter on quite a few tanks and can not believe the results. I will post some other pics today.

As a standard filter the magnum is good in my opinion.

Good thing about the new vortex diatom filters is you can use them 24/7 now

The vortex freedom filter even can clip on to the back unline the older types
