These plants are also called Stem plants. Stem plants are usually cuttings and a number of stems are bundled together to make it look like a single plant.  We generally provide 6 plants per bunch unless otherwise stated. These plants are bundled in a lead wieght that holds the stems together.  You should remove these prior to planting in your aquarium. . Each stem  should be considered a separate plant at this point. To create a full look in your aquarium I suggest planting these stems close together bunched as it will look much better. 
Stem plants also usually are great nutrient absorbers.  They will decrease algae by utilizing nitrates, nitrites and ammonnia in your tank
