CPR BAK-PAK 2R - REEF READY! NEW!!

This new skimmer is designed for use on reef tanks where biological filtration is not necessary, but still incorporates all of the other features that have made the Bak-Pak line of skimmers so popular. New "Tri Chamber" design of the Bak-Pak 2R takes the place of the biological section and when combined with a new and improved outlet design provides an effective way to reduce bubbles caused by system imbalances. For tanks up to 60 gallons. For larger tanks, use additional Bak-Paks. Hangs on the back of the tank. Easy to setup, easy to use, easy to clean.

Cyclone BAK-PAK 2Rsm Bio-Filter
REEF READY!

CPR is proud to introduce the hang-on skimmer that all reefkeepers have been waiting for, the Cyclone Bak-Pak 2Rsm. This new skimmer is designed for use on reef tanks where biological filtration is not necessary, but still incorporates all of the other features that have made the Bak-Paksm line of skimmers so popular.

New "Tri Chamber" design of the Bak-Pak 2Rsm takes the place of the biological section, and when combined with a new and improved outlet design, provides an effective way to reduce bubbles caused by system imbalances.

  • Incorporates CPR's proven high performance rejuvenation protein skimmer.
  • No need to purchase an overflow or return pump, the Bak-Pak 2Rsm simply hangs on the back of your tank.
  • Use on tanks utilizing the Berlin or Jaubert Method, where supplemental biological filtration is not desired.
  • Easy to setup, easy to use, easy to clean.
  • For tanks up to 60 gallons. For larger tanks use additional Bak-Paks.

The Bak-Pak 2Rsm can also make use of the accessories available for the Bak-Pak 2sm (with the exception of the BPBT).

Product Support: The Bak-Pak 2Rsm

Instructions:

As many hobbyists venture into the world of reef keeping a common goal among most is to keep the filtration system as simple as possible. With biological media being replaced by live rock and sand, the only critical need is for the removal of compounds which could eventually break down into ammonia and nitrite. The Bak-Pak 2Rsm is designed to provide a simple yet highly efficient protein skimmer for a reef system. Requiring no supplemental plumbing, the Bak-Pak 2Rsm employs a tri-chamber design with a new bubble reducing outlet assembly that simply hangs on the back of the tank.

To place your Bak-Pak 2Rsm into operation:

Carefully remove all packaging and inspect the unit for damaged or missing parts. You should have:

(1) Protein skimmer body
(1)
RVT Rejuvenation Venturi powerhead
(1) Collection cup assembly with “O” ring and lid
(1)
Outlet assembly
(1) Inlet assembly
(1) Sponge

If any of these items is damaged or missing, please contact your dealer immediately.

2) If you have a glass aquarium or an acrylic aquarium with an opening that is wide enough for the powerhead to slide in, then attach the powerhead to the inlet assembly as shown and hang the Bak-Pak 2Rsm on your tank. Use the adjustment screws to position the Bak-Pak 2Rsm so that it is parallel to the back of the tank.

3) If the powerhead does not fit through the opening of the aquarium where the inlet fits into then place the Bak-Pak 2Rsm on the tank and insert the powerhead into the inlet from inside the aquarium. Make sure that the muffler on the end of the long airline is outside of the water at all times.

4) Clean the collection cup including the throat of the funnel in hot water. This will cause the skimmer to begin collecting waste faster. Do not use any detergents on the collection cup.

5) Plug in the powerhead. Your Bak-Pak 2Rsm is now operational. (Note: The outlet elbow can be raised, lowered and rotated to obtain desired flow patterns.)

6) The quality of foam in the collection cup can be adjusted by sliding the “O” ring up or down. If the foam is too wet (clear liquid only), raise the collection cup up by sliding the “O” ring down until the desired foam quality is achieved. If the foam is too dry (little or no liquid present) then lower the collection cup slightly by sliding the “O” ring up on the collection cup. Adjusting the collection cup height so that the lowest edge of the collection funnel is 1/8” below the water line in the filter will typically produce the optimal foam quality.

7) We have added an air control valve on your new Cyclone Bak-Pak 2Rsm. This valve will allow you to control the amount of air being drawn into the powerhead. We recommend initially opening the valve completely for maximum airflow into the skimmer. If it does not appear that the skimmer column is filled with bubbles, slowly close the valve until the column is full.

The Bak-Pak 2Rsm comes with a block sponge that can be attached to the base of the outlet tube on the inside of the filter. This sponge may only be necessary when medicating, cycling the tank, after a major water change, or when certain additives are added to the tank that cause the surface tension of the water to be temporarily increased, and will help to reduce the number of bubbles escaping into the tank. ** In order for the new bubble reducing outlet to work correctly, the outlet from the Bak-Pak 2Rsm must be completely submerged below the surface of the water in your tank. (You may experience “turbulence bubbles” from the outlet if not properly installed.)

Maintenance

1) The collection cup should be emptied regularly. Every time you empty the cup, clean the base of the funnel and the inside of the throat for better collection.

2) The Bak-Pak 2Rsm should be cleaned every three months, or as needed.

3) Clean the powerhead at least once a month. For instructions on cleaning your powerhead, click here. Replace the impeller assembly once a year for the most efficient operation.

4) When using the enclosed sponge, make sure to clean it on a regular basis to avoid heavy buildup which could cause the unit to overflow.

5) The inlet and outlet may be removed and cleaned as needed. Be sure to replace the washers on each assembly when reassembling your Bak-Pak 2Rsm. If it is necessary to remove the inside portion of the outlet, simply hold the inside nut while turning the outside portion of the outlet counter-clockwise. After a few turns the inside piece will become loose so that it may be removed. To re-install, simply tighten the nut with the outside portion of the outlet in the correct position and then insert the inner portion as shown in the diagram.
